Beach Veterinary Hospital's Cat of the Month, September 2019: Pudge

Sweet Pudge, we love your alert little look.

Pudge, a 6-year-old female Tortoiseshell, began her life at Beach Veterinary Hospital and is now celebrated as our September Cat of the Month.

Sweet Pudge was brought into Beach Veterinary Hospital along with her brother when they were just a couple days old. They were so little, they still had their umbilical cords attached and were in desperate need of care. That is when a Pudge’s now new mom jumped in to help. She took the two orphans home, where they were bottled fed around the clock.

“Having had my share of experience with ‘bottle baby kittens,’ I knew I had to act fast to save these two,” said Beach Veterinary Hospital client care specialist and foster mom Sally. “These babies need to be bottle-fed every couple hours. Without this constant care, they would not survive.”

Luckily, Pudge and her brother did quite well and thrived under Sally’s care. Now it was on to find their forever homes.

“I’m hiding, Mom! See? See?” Pudge says.

“Well, it wasn’t too hard finding these two homes,” Sally continued. “Both would come to work with me each day in a cloth grocery bag, so they could be fed. In no time, Pudge stole my heart and her brother won the affections of one of our long-time clients. You can say they both landed on their feet.”

Pudge was originally called Smudge due to her coloring, but that name quickly changed to Pudge to better match her housemate Pookah’s name. This, in turn, occasionally turns to Pudgie or, in typical torti fashion, Queen Bee.

“How do I describe Pudge?” Sally asked. “Typical Torti! She is pretty standoffish, but will pick those she likes and then disappears or hides if she doesn’t like you.”

Thank you, Pudge, for your contribution to saving cats’ lives.

Pudge is quite fond of Beach Veterinary Hospital. Not only does she consider it her second home, but she is often doted on by our clients. Her favorite toy, a Beanie Baby, came to her from the client who adopted her brother. It was a unique treasure that had her brother’s smell on it and a toy she still carries with her to this day.

“Did I mention that Pudge is also a lifesaver?” Sally said. “Having begun her life at the veterinary hospital, Pudge now does her part by donating blood throughout the year for the ACCES Blood Bank. With each donation, Pudge helps save up to four cats’ lives!”

Well, Pudge, you are definitely our hero, and we are so glad you continue to live your best life. Here is to many, many years to come!

Visit ACCES Blood Bank to learn more and see if your pet qualifies to be a lifesaver.
